DIMAC data analysis summary

 
The DIMAC measurements acquired during the Foton M-3 mission have been post-processed and analyzed in detail.
 
Magnetometer measurements have been used to reconstruct the attitude motion of the Foton M-3 spacecraft (in cooperation with Prof. V. V. Sazonov of the 'Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics' in Moscow).
The results of this analysis are available as (see examples below):
- Attitude data
- Angular rate data
- Quasi-steady acceleration data (for any location in the spacecraft)
 
The accuracy of the attitude reconstruction has been verified by comparing the results to angular rate measurements, solar radiation measurements and quasi-steady acceleration measurements.
 
Vibration measurements (bandwidth 0.01Hz..200Hz) are available as (see examples below):
- Time domain data (7GByte data at 1000Hz acquisition rate and plots in report)
- Frequency spectrum (FFT analysis presented as spectrograms and G-RMS plots)
 
The data analysis report provides mission overview and daily plots for each axis and for the acceleration amplitude. In addition to this report a software tool has been developed which allows analysis of the post-processed data. This viewer generates time domain and frequency domain plots for any selected time interval.
 
Low-pass filtered vibration measurement data has been used successfully by the YES2 project team to reconstruct the deployment of the YES2 tether.
These data have also been used to verify the Foton M-3 attitude reconstruction accuracy. After correction of the local magnetic field disturbance (using the measurements of the dedicated tri-axial magnetometer located inside the DIMAC Control Unit) the low-pass filtered vibration measurement data correlates closely to the quasi-steady acceleration calculated for the Control Unit location based on the attitude motion reconstruction (see example below).
 
Preliminary results have been presented during the Foton M-3 Post Flight Review (March 2008).
The full set of calibrated vibration measurement data and the data viewer tool are available for distribution as of April 2008.
 
Remark that during the Foton M-3 mission subsets of the DIMAC measurement data have been downloaded using the TeleSupport system. These data have been processed immediately and preliminary results have been available to the scientists and operators of other Foton M-3 payloads.
